Winoskitekw, which roughly translates to "onion land river" or "wild onion river". May Day, 2026, Land of the River of the Wild Onion, River...or if we try
to critically translate 'Aye Eye': 'Winoskitekw, which roughly
translates to "onion land river" or "wild onion river". This name
post-colonial, wildly roughly comes from winos (wild onion) and tekw
(river). The neighboring city of Winooski was named after this river,
slightly resembling its rightful Indigenous name.
